We’re probably only a few days away from the official unveiling of the Google Pixel 7a, and now unboxing photos of the mid-range phone have leaked online, showing what the phone looks like and the two colors it will be available in.
Snaps appeared courtesy of an experienced tipster SnoopyTech (opens in a new tab) (By 9to5Google (opens in a new tab)) and reveal a shape, size and aesthetic that is pretty much what we expected. The familiar Pixel camera bump is visible on the back, for example.
We’ll be looking at the dark gray version of the Pixel 7a, which will apparently be called Cobalt, and the light blue edition, which will be called Arctic Blue. This shade of blue is new to the Pixel series and has also appeared in previously revealed images.
What’s in the box?
The images also show us the simple packaging that the Google Pixel 7a will arrive in. As with the latest models like the Google Pixel 6a, don’t expect a power adapter to be included in the box – you’ll need to buy one separately.
The fact that such images are appearing now suggests that the premiere is imminent. All indications are that Google will announce the phone during the Google IO 2023 event, which will start on May 10 with a keynote presentation.
Of course, we will be covering the event live and providing news of everything Google announces. There should be plenty more to come about what’s coming with Android 14, and quite possibly the Google Pixel Fold as well.
Analysis: Pixel 7a looks promising
There’s no way to really judge a phone before it even comes out, but everything we’ve heard about the Pixel 7a so far – from fairly reliable, if unofficial sources – suggests that Google has produced another promising Pixel phone.
The Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro impressed us with what they had to offer overall, so a mid-range version of these phones that offers reasonable performance/price trade-offs should be a compelling proposition.
In terms of the upgrades over the Pixel 6a, the specs under the hood will be much better, and Face Unlock is also rumored to be coming to the Pixel 7a – it would be the first in this mid-range handset, and much appreciated.
Just a few days ago we saw the Pixel 7a leak in a rather attractive orange color and we like how it looks too. As always, the price will be very important, so we hope that the phone will go on sale for a reasonable sum.
